so long, my friend see you in the end there'll come a time, won't be tomorrow but i hope i see you there, my friend. mountain road, california sand, i'm goin out there with a dream in my hand hate to go, seems i'm always up and leaving but i hope i see your face again i had a love, i had a plan, lost 'em both and now i'm back home again her name is sweet, and it echoes in the mountain in the pines like cinnamon i hope i see her face again so i say: so long, my love! and i say: so long, my friend! i'm headin' south out there on the road again hate to go, seems i'm always up and leaving but i hope i see your face again.

beautiful soul, wonderful stranger i know we work each day dragging our feet for our pay deep in your eyes, i see your sighs and your woes beautiful soul, you have a beautiful soul and i would like to let you know beautiful soul, when will your kindness run dry? could've sworn i'd seen, the gates of life in your eyes. it's so hard to find one not enslaved by the gold beautiful soul, you have a beautiful soul. and i would like to let you know and i would like to let you know beautiful soul, most people lie to themselves beautiful soul, you want no part of their spell. of the all-too-common dreams and delusions where we dwell. it's an all-too-common scheme, a confusion that we sell. we call it heaven, but it's hell for you we call it heaven but it's hell for you we call it heaven but it's hell.

take me back to my mother, take me back to my home. oh, i know there ain't no goin' back from here. i'm a'dreamin of a' you my dear. would you take me back to my father? take me back to his laughter. oh, i know there ain't no goin' back from here. i'm a' dreamin' of a' you my dear. away, far away from my home dare i pray to a god i've never known? so they say that each man, well, he must walk alone. i'm away, far away from my home. take me back to my first love, take me back to her arms. oh i know there ain't no going back from here, i'm a' dreamin' of a' you, my dear. lord, would you carry me to the mountain? if you don't, i will walk on my own. oh, i know there ain't no going back from here, i'm a' dreamin' of a' you, my dear.

about

I recorded these songs about 6 years ago in Asheville, NC in my bedroom. I think I was playing a lot of gigs then.

I found these tracks sitting around on an old sound cloud page and figured they were halfway decent.

They represent my own attempt at home recording - which was super basic: Garageband, a really basic M-Audio Interface and an SM58.

"Take Me Back" and "So Long, My Friend" were written around similar times - before I even moved to Asheville, when I was traveling on my own sorts of pilgrimages, falling in love, longing for some sort of home and trying to be a beatnik in the early 2010s. I was really hot on Kerouac, Dylan and adventure, as every guy in their early 20s should be.

Michael Mortimer, an amazing poet I know, helped to kick off the song "So Long, My Friend" after I showed him the riff in a cottage up in Nederland, CO, so he deserves a definite songwriting credit there. I just ran with his idea and messed with it on my own over the years.

"Beautiful Soul" was written in Asheville, inspired by a real person who I still know - who really does have a beautiful soul.

Special thanks to my dear old homie, Nick Brower, out in Las Cruces, NM who gave these crude tracks a quick master.

I hope you enjoy these songs!
